MORE ABOUT BEACH SHACK STUDENT DEVELOPMENT

Jake Clough, one of our founding partners, started tutoring under the BSSD logo in 2016. He carried this out individually, assisting many students in their higher learning until early 2020 at which time he faced the dilemma of the novel COVID-19. This pandemic has unquestionably altered the learning experience available to students due to the sudden implementation of remote learning and other such structures.

 

​As university students and scholars of Brisbane Boys' College, our founding partners understand that academia can be troubling at the best of times, let alone in those of disarray. Ergo, Jake and fellow tutor and Bachelor of Laws and Commerce student at UQ, Jack Gallagher, decided to take Beach Shack Student Development online in order to provide quality tutoring whilst adapting to the circumstances presented to students in Brisbane.

In order to effectuate this modal transition, the pair took to the tertiary education grade and easy-to-use platform Zoom to deliver sessions. This application allows students to reap the benefits of personal and personable tutoring from the comfort of their own homes with Zoom offering face-to-face meetings with the ability of the tutor to view and control the students’ work via their computer.

As Queensland began lifting restrictions and infection rates started to subside, BSSD was able to seamlessly transition to in-person sessions with the option of continuing Zoom sessions where desired. Our wholly integrated service offering allows BSSD to adapt our model of tutelage to suit present learning conditions with ease.

Then at the start of 2023, Jake and Jack were approaching graduation and were looking to move on to other projects and opportunities and interviewed a handful of candidates to take over BSSD. I, 2022 Brisbane Boys' College graduate Joe Gilroy, was lucky enough to have Jake and Jack place their trust in me to take over BSSD and have been running it ever since.
